Chamber Honors Becky Goshorn
The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors recognized Becky Goshorn with Mary Kay Cosmetics as the November Member of the Month. Goshorn has been serving clients in the industry since 1978.
Goshorn became a consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics when she moved to Bluffton from Connecticut in 1978 as a way to make friends in a new area. “I didn’t know anyone in Bluffton and only planned to be a consultant for 6 months,” explained Goshorn. “I really wasn’t interested in sales at the time.”
“I was the best kept secret in Wells County when I started this business,” Goshorn laughs. “I was so shy, and many people didn’t know that I was even a consultant. My purpose was to meet people and I wasn’t putting myself out there to work the business; however, once I realized women enjoyed the products, I could provide a need delivering exceptional service, it became easier.”
Within 6 months Goshorn discovered that she loved to be of service to women, enjoyed having a way to make extra income, and work around her children’s schedules. “I raised two children through Mary Kay and never missed their sporting events or school activities. Now with grandchildren I still have that opportunity to have the flexibility to be present at their events.”
Goshorn gives the business a lot of credit in helping her children, who are now grown adults, understand about setting goals and reaching them or not reaching them, setting priorities, and being service-minded. “What’s caught is more important than what’s taught,” Goshorn said.
Goshorn has worked her Mary Kay business hard through the years earning many benefits such as 18 cars, diamond rings, and high-end items. In 1984 Goshorn earned her first pink Cadillac and has received a car every two years since that time. Goshorn has earned these items due to a combination of personal sales and unit sales. Currently Goshorn is a Sales Director with 140 consultants in 15 different states under her leadership.
Goshorn has had the privilege to start the Mary Kay business in Mexico and India over the years. “I traveled to Mexico in the mid-1980’s every couple of months to introduce women to the business and mentor them how to build their team. I was able to do the same in India in 2007.”
“One of the greatest memories I will cherish was being a part of the Pink Cadillac Parade during Aretha Franklin’s funeral in 2019. There were over 100 pink Cadillac’s lined up parading through Detroit and people were standing along the sidewalks with signs cheering and waving. People were so grateful and appreciative to honor Aretha in this way; it was incredibly emotional and such a special moment to cherish,” stated Goshorn.
Goshorn explained that her goals are to provide the best customer service possible and make people feel important and special; providing the benefits they want in their skincare. “We are enriching women’s lives whether with time or products through this business opportunity.”
Goshorn concluded, “I am so grateful for the support of this community to help me build this wonderful business. I love Wells County and I am so blessed to have the many friends and support over the years.”
