Chamber Recognizes Achieva Salon & Spa
The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors surprised owners Angie Harris and Kim Leas and staff of Achieva Salon & Spa as the July Member of the Month. Achieva Salon & Spa is located at 107 North Main Street in Bluffton.
Achieva Salon & Spa has been in downtown Bluffton for 62 years. Angie’s grandfather originally opened it as a barber shop; however, 25 years ago Harris and Leas bought the business and changed the name to Achieva Salon & Spa. Harris has been working at the business for 34 years and Leas for 30 years.
“Times certainly have changed,” stated Harris. “Our staff size was smaller and all we did were haircuts, color, perming and waxing. We still have clients today that have been with us from the beginning and comment about how much the business has grown. It has been very exciting to see those changes over the years.”
Today, Achieva Salon & Spa is one of the largest salons in the area offering a wide variety of services from haricuts, styling, waxing, eyebrow tinting, paraffin dips, specialty coloring, massage therapy, manicures, and pedicures. “Our future goals are to bring in an Esthetician and expand Microblading services, “said Leas.
Expanding services requires more space and attracting more talent to the business for the specialty services Achieva Salon & Spa offers. “We have to thank our outstanding landlord, Ben Jones, for helping us with our space and building needs,” explained Leas. “He will do anything for us and has helped to make improvements cosmetically including doubling our space size. Over seven years ago we added a manicure and pedicure room, massage therapy room, and a storage area.”
Harris noted that Ben was instrumental in acquiring CRP Funds through Bluffton NOW! and the City of Bluffton to expand a Nail Tech room, shampoo/drying room and added office space. “We also updated our outdoor lighting to LED out front and the front window was re-done.”
“There was a time when downtown wasn’t thriving and it would have been easy to move out of the space, but we knew we couldn’t find anyone like Ben,” explained Leas. “Second, we are enjoying the transition we see with the downtown revitalization efforts. It has been fun watching the exciting things taking place. We encourage people to support the downtown and utilize the beautiful plaza. Those changes in downtown help our business, and others, continue to grow because people now enjoy what they see in downtown.”
Both Harris and Leas commented that this honor of recognition makes them feel very proud of what they have truly accomplished in 25 years. “This is a very tough business to be in and sometimes you get a little knocked down,” explained Leas. “Clients and staff can go anywhere as there are so many choices out there and this recognition sure does lift the spirts and reminds us that we really have accomplished a lot over the years.”
“We truly appreciate each and every one of our clients,” concluded Harris.
Achieva Salon & Spa hours are 8am-7pm Tuesday through Thursday; 8am-4pm Friday; and 8am-1pm Saturday.
