Southern Wells Community Church Holds Ribbon Cutting
The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and community members honored Southern Wells Community Church, now located at 9450 S 300 West in Poneto, with a Ribbon Cutting for their new building, constructed by Barkley Builders.
Southern Wells Community Church was founded in 1997 and have been holding services on Sunday at Southern Wells school system. Several members of the congregation who have been with the church since 1997 were present at the ribbon cutting such as Patty Sparks, and Jerry and Gretta Nusbaumer.
Sunday, November 15 will be the first services offered in the new facility beginning at 9am and 10:45am with Pastor Jody Mounsey and Associate Pastor Tom Bradley leading. An open house will be held on Sunday from 4-7pm for the community to tour the facility, meet members, and enjoy Chili and Chicken Noodle Soup being served to guests.
Pastor Mounsey publicly thanked Southern Wells Community Schools for allowing services to be held in the school for the past 23 years. Southern Wells Superintendent Brian Sloan was present for the celebration. “We thank you and you have been a blessing to work with,” said Mounsey.
The congregation had plans to build a new facility, eventually in time. In 2003 the property, which is 23 acres, was purchased by a group of individuals and then donated to the church. The church has been slowly building up the finances for construction. “In the last four years, God has provided us the finances and spiritual growth,” explained Mounsey. “The congregation numbers have increased, and everything started to align. Two years ago, we made the plans to build and everything has fallen into place.”
There is 10,000 square feet of space with a sanctuary that can seat 289 people, a large narthex, a full kitchen, adult Sunday School classroom, additional classrooms for senior high, special needs, elementary and middle school, toddler rooms, and a nursery.
“God is in the life-changing business and we are taking steps in our growth with this beautiful facility to bring people to Christ,” said Mounsey. “So, here we are! Use us as you see fit.”
Mounsey explained that the goal moving forward is to use the building to bring people in for events and be a place to draw people beyond Sunday morning. “Southern Wells Community Church is a place for people to go, a place of refuge, and a place for lives to be changed and live to know Christ.”
The congregation is thrilled that they now can have events at one location such as their Harvest Party and Live Nativity. The plan is to provide additional activities and outreach programs for the community.
“God has been moving and changing lives; we are on a whirlwind and people can’t sit still. It is neat to see people respond to God in a positive way,” concluded Mounsey.
