Young Entrepreneur Opens Business

The Wells County Chamber of Commerce staff and Ambassadors congratulated Gunner Dunning with a Ribbon Cutting to celebrate his new business, Gunner’s Lawn Care. Dunning serves the Harrison and Lancaster Townships, with a preference to Bluffton city limits.

A 12-year-old with a dream of owning and running his own lawn care business is well under way. Dunning started mowing lawns four years ago as a hobby because he loves the smell of fresh cut grass and enjoys the time to think when mowing.

A hobby that has allowed him to grow a customer base transitioned Dunning to start his own business. “I enjoy mowing so much and I wanted to make money,” said Dunning. “I officially started my own business mid-summer in 2020 with 4 customers and I now I have 17.”

Dunning’s goal by the end of the summer is to increase to 25-30 customers both for residential and businesses. “When my brother gets older, I really want him to help me with the business so one of us can cut grass and the other can trim and edge,” explained Dunning.

As Dunning started Gunner’s Lawn Care, he had a bicycle that pulled a trailer to hold equipment such as a push mower, hand clippers, gloves, and bags. “I decided if I am going to grow this business, I need a riding mower,” Dunning stated. “My dad made a hitch so I can pull everything, and we are going to make a bigger trailer so there is room to add trash cans for grass clippings.”

Dunning’s schedule is very flexible throughout the week during the school year because he is home-schooled. Gunner’s Lawn Care can be found on Facebook if anyone is interested in booking his services.
